Thanks for all the positive comments. Vlad, the cab is AMT 1:25 but with a lot of modifications, as is the motor and drivetrain. I take the point about the battery and lights, kind of let myself down there but I'm making up for it with the RS700 I'm working on now. The motor runs. Alastair

Do you know when they started using lift axles in Washington? Would it have been 1970's or later than that?

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about these trucks. It seems like they had a few of them including early steel dash models. Would they have came from the factory with the lift axle? I can't say I've seen any 70's era pictures of trucks with lift axles so I thought maybe they got added later.

And it still looks far cooler than all the other vehicles in the movie. Have to ditch all that junk they've stuck on it though! I'm sure it is a RHD cab because the air cleaner is on the left. Typical down under set up.

In the John Montville Mack book there is a photo of a long framed NR4 model, part of an order for tank transporters for the British Army in North Africa in 1941. They look very similar to the L series so I was wondering if the NR's were a military version of the L's or a new design which shared some of the same sheet metal as the civilian models.

Thankyou. You always come to the rescue with my numerous requests! I'll go for the setup you descibed. I think early valueliners probably had a lot in common with the late model RS700's and over the bell housing sounds like a more direct route than under. One question leads to another though. Where does the trailer electrical hook up go to? I was planning on putting a socket near the tractor protection valve on the crossmember which holds the cab but where would this run back to? I've dug out a few pictures of progress so far although I've since put the fuel tanks on. The cab and hood are all done too but I haven't taken any pics of them yet. I'm on a bit of a deadline now as I entered it in a show in June so I have to get it finished! Thanks again!

Hi, I need to do a bit more research for my scale model 78 Valueliner. I'm not going to get into replicating the entire electrical system but I wanted to at least put in the battery leads but I don't know where they go to or how the batteries on either side link up. Can somebody help? Thank you.

I must have somehow managed to post the topic twice! Thank you for the perfectly clear explanation. I've since pored over photos including the ones you sent me and can see what you described. It looks like all the Hayward R's had the rod attached to the bottom of the cab so that's what I'll do. Also, can you tell me what the object marked in this picture is? I'm guessing it must be something to do with AC. Thank you.

Seeing as the fuelpump is on the right hand side and the throttle pedal is on the left and there's not a whole lot of space in front of the firewall, I'm guessing that the cable must snake from left to right under the cab and emerge on the right hand side of the engine block before connecting with the back of the fuel pump. Is this right?

One more question. There's a small air tank mounted to a cross member across the frame. It looks like it has one line going in and one coming out but there might be more I can't see. What does this tank do? You might recognize the picture!

Just had another look at photos and managed to spot a few air dryers. Seems there were various locations and styles. but inside of frame rail behind the cab looks like one. I've made a replica of a Bendix AD-SP and will probably put it in this location. Thanks again. I'll try to get some pictures of the build soon.

Thanks again. I've just been poring over a bendix catalogue and I think I've got 1. it looks like a front axle ratio valve. What does that do? I've got several air system drawings for 3 axle trucks but can't see one of those. Trouble is, they are all different so I think I'm going to have to make a lot up when it comes to putting in all the lines. lucky it isn't a real truck! Also, do you know where the air dryer goes? I've looked at loads of photos but cannot see one. Thanks.

Thanks for that info. Does that clutch cable loop round to the side of the clutch housing? I've got a slightly better resolution picture which gives a better view of 1 and 2. I think 2 looks like a quick release valve but I don't know about 1. There's also another pic from the other side with 5 and 6 labelled (5 is the hose coming of the intake pipe). Could you tell me what these are? Thank you.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me identify the numbered parts in the picture attached. It's for my Value-Liner scale model project but it looks like the layout is the same for early Superdogs as well. 1 and 2 look to me like brake valves of some sort but I don't know exactly what type. 1 seems to be attached to the cab footwell and 2 is mounted on the cab mount. 3 is a hose coming out of the underside of the radiator top tank but I don't know what it does or where the other end goes to. 4 I have no idea at all. Any help would be appreciated.

I've never seen a 600 series with an external luberfiner. Plenty of Cummins powered 700's had them. Was there a reason for puttingit on the outside rather than under the hood?

What a fantastic restoration. I'm amazed at the talent of you guys who can rebuild a truck as (or better than) new from the ground up. Personally I'd be scared of tackling anything larger than a bicycle! I wonder if you could post a picture of the underside of the cab if you get a moment? One of my long term model projects is an F model and I like to get stuck into all the detail.

The model is 1:25 and the frames are scratch from 1mm styrene sheet. I agree that it would look better to continue the stripes butI'd like to mimic what they did on the real thing. Might be a bit awkward masking across the panel pressings though. I noticed a lot of details that are the same as the Superliner so I've made some silicone molds of some of the parts so I don't have to make them again from scratch If/when I ever do a Superliner model. I'd like to see that Western R done ,Lmackattack. Sounds a bit as though your model output is similar to mine. I started the Valueliner about 3 years ago! too many projects , not enough time!
