    You're a 19 year old kid. You are critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam . It's November 14, 1965. LZ (landing zone) X-ray. Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his lightly armored UH-1 Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 30 seriously wounded soldiers out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Army Retired, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho. May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, We’ve heard plenty about murders, Health Care, Border security etc. BUT NOTHING ABOUT THE PASSING OF Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman. Shame on the media!!!

    I wanted to share my latest addition . It started life as an R795 . But the owner ( that has passed now ) liked detroit motors. So they put an 8V92 in it. I don't know a lot about the truck. I believe it has 44 k rears, 12 k front . I do know it is a 1977 , 475 hp and it has a 13 speed . I am now the 3rd owner of the truck. My plan is to use it a little to move equipment and take to the occasional show. As strange as it seems …….. my attraction to this truck is the motor. It just sounds so cool ! I plan on doing some video of it . I will post when i get something uploaded .

    Thought I’d share a couple pics of my R model that was delivered this weekend. I purchased the truck from the wife of the original owner who passed away last year. He had ordered it new in 1979 and was the only one to drive it. The truck has 118k miles and was used to pull a lowboy. It’s completly original except the blue paint which was done at the Mack dealer when truck was new.

    Vermont man takes revenge on town board with a 700-pound statue of a middle finger By Rex Santus Dec 11, 2018 A Vermont man was so incensed by his town's zoning regulations that he erected a 700-pound statue giving officials the middle finger — and lit it with floodlights so they would always be reminded of his feelings toward them. Ted Pelkey’s decade-long feud with local officials reached spiteful new heights Nov. 30, when he installed the statue on a high pole in his front yard, along Route 128, after his request to relocate his monofilament cleaning and truck repair business from a nearby town to his own property was denied. Pelkey said officials won’t let him build the garage simply because they don’t like him, and he thought a middle finger was just the right response. “We wanted to show our appreciation,” Pelkey told VICE News. The Westford Selectboard and Development Review Board had denied Pelkey’s requests for the large garage, asserting that his applications did not meet the town’s standards for a variety of reasons. Among them, Pelkey’s application lacked necessary information about lighting that will “likely be needed for security purposes,” and did not effectively describe the purpose of the building, officials said. But while Pelkey couldn’t legally build a garage, he does have the legal right to flip off town officials for all eternity. Though billboards are banned in Vermont, Pelkey’s middle finger is protected because it isn’t advertising a business or service. Furthermore, the middle finger is a gesture that is generally protected by the First Amendment, so Pelkey’s $4,000 statue seems to fall under the category of “public art.” “He apparently can do what he’s done,” Allison Hope, chair of the Westford Selectboard, told the Burlington Free Press. As it turns out, even though billboards are banned advertisements in Vermont, the middle finger has gotten more attention for Pelkey’s business than any roadside sign ever would have. Twitter users have expressed a growing admiration for his pettiness, and there’s even a Facebook fan page for Pelkey’s wooden finger statue.     This truck hasn't seen many miles in a lot of years. A friend who started driving in Virginia in an H model wants to drive it up to the Brooks, OR show in a few weeks so I decided to get it serviced and make a run. It performed well other than the sticks are awful stiff. It will be a hot 270 mile run but a lot of fun and memories. Note the smoke in our valley................plain awful for 2 weeks now.

    We had our local tractor show this past weekend. Friday was nice but Saturday was almost a complete wash out. I built a pulling hitch for the mack and they left me pull friday after the diesel pickups. Truck worked real good and had a lot of fun doing it. I have most of the bugs worked out of our johndeere B and got to put it on a pto dyno Saturday. It had 33 horsepower at 540rpm and maxed out at 38hp. Not bad for a 28 horse tractor.

    I flew to L.I. this afternoon to do the Barbecue for the Long Island Veterans Home and to put flags and pennies on the grave markers at Calverton National Cemetery. Wasn't going to do the feed for the Vets this year, but felt guilty about letting my fellow vets down. So tomorrow and Sunday my son and grandson will be cooking our butts off. Remember Memorial Day is for the Hero's who made the Supreme Gift to us. . .their lives for our freedom. Take a moment to remember them during the weekend. A coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier's family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect. Leaving a penny means you visited. A nickel means that you and the deceased soldier trained at boot camp together. If you served with the soldier, you leave a dime. A quarter is very significant because it means that you were there when that soldier died." While this isn’t officially recognized or endorsed by the military, these tiny pieces of metal say a lot about those who bravely defended our freedom. The coins are gathered up by the cemetery and go into a fund for flags markers.

    The weekend of Sept 7/8/9 I went to the wedding of a very close friend (in fact it was Ross Gabrick, the son of Robert Gabrick, many of you know to have written multiple books about transportation and trucks of various makes....) up in Duluth, Minnesota. I flew into Minneapolis and rented a car and drove up to Duluth. I was never in that part of the country before, let alone ever having seen any of the Great Lakes. My favorite part of the drive was northbound on I35 and going up that hill just south of Duluth, then when you crest the hill you look down into Duluth and the lake is all you see on the horizon. Beautiful. The wedding was something else, too. The headquarters for the wedding was at Larsmont, a resort right on the north shore of the lake in Two Harbors. Because Ross is a huge Bus nut, we took antique buses from the resort to the church on the other side of the famous lift bridge in Duluth. Then the buses from the church over to the reception at Deluth Union Depot, the old train station. It has been fixed up into it's heydey of train travel. Dinner was in the main lobby/waiting area. Then we had free roam of the train museum downstairs on the track level. The best part of all however was the private chartered train ride from Duluth to Two Harbors and back. Originally we were supposed to be pulled by tea kettle, however it suffered a fractured drive tire and had to be sidelined. So, F7 power it was. Yes, overgrown Detroit power. Oh well. One of the two buses, this one is the 1948 GMC, its entire life was Greyhound. The other bus was a 1960 GMC/Greyhound. I don't know why I didn't get a pic of it. I saw a freighter out on the Lake. This was taken from the harbor entrance, so I was told it was probably swinging on the hook until Monday morning when it would steam into Duluth or Superior, Mi. to unload. On Sunday I went to the Great Lakes Maritime Visitors Center, which is in the US Army Corps of Engineers building right there at the lift bridge. It is an excellent little museum (and free.) If you are into this kind of stuff, and are ever up that way, I highly recommend it. This is a model of how the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald looks. I saw a girl in a train car. I saw a 1938 Kahlenberg Diesel engine. I saw a two cylinder steam engine from a tugboat. I saw a world-famous lift bridge. They say it raises 5000+ times in a year. I believe it because in the three hours I spent in the area, it went up 4 or 5 times. I even took a video with a vessel and the bridge saluting one another with one long and two short air horn blasts. This is a tradition. I'd like to have the bridge air horn on my pickup truck. I saw a Pterodactyl. I saw another lake freighter, this was at the resort. At the time I pulled it up on shipfinder, but I don't remember the name, but it is one of the "Thousand Footers." I saw a pair of F-7's pulling the private wedding train I saw Duluth Missabe and Iron Range #229, a Baldwin "Yellowstone" 4-8-8-4, a smaller version of the UP Big Boy. This one is at the train station in Two Harbors. There is another one in the museum in Duluth where I got to go inside the cab. I saw the William A. Irvin, a retired Lake Freighter which is now a museum. I was pissed because I could not go aboard, they had the pier closed for renovations.

    I took the red headed woman that I love back to the airport in Roanoke today. I usually take rt. 43 from Altavista to Bedford, then 460 to Roanoke. When I was coming back today I happened to notice a big orange rock truck parked in a field over here at Leesville- you know, where that tri-axle Ford tractor with the lowboy is usually parked. I thought "hmmmm...that looks like a big Mack rock truck!" And of all the times to not have a camera- I always have my camera!..except today. Fortunately, you can take fairly decent pictures with a phone nowadays. So I stopped and pulled in the driveway and asked the guys that were standing around that Ford if I could take some pictures of the Mack. The man said "absolutely, start it up, drive it around the field!" And I thought he was joking, but one of his guys went over and cranked it up- started right up too. He told me that the state bought it in the 70's, used it on one job up on rt. 130, then he bought it and he's had it ever since, and still uses it doing site work from time to time. He said it only had 2,000 hrs. on it. I posted a little video of it running on Facebook.

    Nice looking black B, got the cab and hood for mine out of Texas as well, look like what is on the plate. There are more than a few B-755's still around. There was a number of differences from a B-75, mostly to do with raising the cab to fit the engine. Most do not have the original 864 in them anymore. OEM B-755 had the NA 864/255hp. It was Mack's first attempt at bigger HP but the engine was plagued with problems. Then came the twin turbo 864/305hp in 1967 in the R Model. The injection pump was a nightmare! I had a running 864/255 for my B-755 but choose to go with a 866/375hp when it was restored. Most of the bad problems were worked out in the 866 except for constantly cracking cylinder heads.

    So...... I have always loved to cook (my mom started teaching me when I was 9 or 10) and always did the cooking in the firehouse and to this day cook big and/or extravagant meals on holidays. You guys may recall last year, I was in the market for a smoker. I was asking some of the guys on here about them, and Otherdog talked me into buying a pit barrel smoker (www.pitbarrelcooker.com) So I asked the wife to get me one fathers day if she was going to get anything. (For fathers day she usually gets me something Macungie-related like a pop-up awning, or a small charcoal grill, or chairs, portable tables, stuff like that.....) So Macungie came, and so did Otherdog who surprised us all for the first time. He kept asking me "Well did she get it for you?" And I had to tell him "No, looks like we cannot afford one right now. I'll have to wait, maybe I will work some overtime and save up." So the Tuesday after Macungie, I get home from work and walk into the mudroom and damn near fall over a big ass box and damn near break my neck. Seems that the UPS man delivered a Pit Barrel Smoker. The wife was asleep (she was due into work that night) so when I get home from work on her work nights, I wake her up so she can shower, eat and get out the door for 7pm. So I run upstairs and wake her up and kissed her twenty times exclaiming "You got it for me!!! You got it for me!!!" Well imagine my confusion when she says over and over again "What the hell are you talking about? What smoker? I didn't get the smoker for you!" So I checked my Amazon Prime account thinking maybe I bought it by accident when I was looking at it (yes I have done that...........) but nope....Nothing on the account. So I called Amazon and spoke to an account rep.....She traces it back to a (insert real name here...........) "Otherdog with a Gladys, Virginia mailing address." So I called Otherdog. The conversation went something like this. Me: "Hey I just got home and damn near broke my neck on a box inside my mud porch." OD: "huh, what was that?" Me: "A Pit Barrel Smoker." OD: "Huh so she got it for you!" Me: "Uh, no." OD: "Well where did it come from?" Me: "The Gladys Fairy delivered it." OD: "Huh. That Gladys Fairy sure is nice!" So after going back and forth for a few minutes I let him in on that I called Amazon and found out. And then I said "Look, while this is a tremendous gift and I sincerely appreciate your kindness and friendship, I want to say that I cannot accept this, however, I also know you well enough to know that if I tell you I can't take it that you will tell me to shove it up my ass, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart and you are a beautiful man." Then he told me that I was one of the big driving forces that made him take off from work for a few days to drive to Macungie for the show, and he had such a good time he wanted to do something nice for me and my family. So, since I don't live far from Macungie....I threw together a little pick-a-nick thing for some folks and woke my ass up at 0530 on Saturday, and was out there and at precisely 6:30am I hung three beef round roasts and one bone-in pork shoulder into the very smoker that he gave me as gift almost exactly one year later. And around 2:15pm I got to watch Otherdog munching down. We had a great time and I don't get mushy on here often but it was cool to make some grub for him and watch him enjoying hisself. So thanks again Otherdog and happy fathers day to you and all the other fathers on here!!! The smoker all loaded up at 6:30am The smoked bone-in pork shoulder, being prepped for shredding.     By some reason I had ocassion to fly over a part of North Norway. The weather was found fine so I made a bit of picture work from the window. Those tight clouds on the last two shots covered the area above Athlantic ocean.

    yesterday today that was just after imron base coat before clear, i forgot to take a picture after i shot the clear it was getting pretty late when i finished up. ill post up a picture tomorrow of it all un wrapped with the clear coat on it. i recorded some video on the whole process so that will be in the works as well. but my old peeling fading pant on the mack has been replaced with nice shiny new paint. its had some clear coat issues as long as iv owned it but it has really started showing its age up close over the last couple years, the whole drivers side was starting to peel bad and the passenger side was starting to peel and there was absolutely no clear coat left on the roof, not to mention the hood had been re painted previously by someone else and the color didn't exactly match they painted over stickers and it was separating in spots. as the original paint was failing underneath the repaint on the hood.

    Finally found a way to fix all my emission system headaches with the new trucks. Just got this 1986 IH 9670 Eagle. It's been many years now since I have been as happy as I am now when I drive this truck. Just have to do some cosmetic stuff. Got a grab handle missing, some dents and extra mirror brackets and stuff to remove. And put the stack on straight. But the headliner and sleeper are still wrapped in plastic. Never been opened up. It's a little light spec'd compared to what I normally have, but many years ago I was in the bush with 38,000 rears and only broke one axle shaft once, so I'll be okay pulling a dump trailer with this. It's got an NTC Big Cam IV 400, 13 speed overdrive and 40,000 International (made by Rockwell) rears with 4.44 ratio. Kinda odd a light spec highway truck is geared that low, but it pulls pretty strong. And I will just be using it in town and on highway construction anyway. Man, I had forgot how glorious it is to drive an old truck with a mechanically governed engine and un-muffled straight pipe. I'm never going to want to drive the 4900 Star now. I missed out on a 350 Superliner, but I'm an International guy too, so this will work!

    My grandfathers brother had an Auto repair/ gas station and Pontiac dealer in Centerport Long Island from the mid teens until his death in 1967. During the 20's and 30's most of his customers were from Eatons Neck and Centerport. The likes of the Vanderbilts, Morgans, Pratt and Manvilles so his wrecker wrecker fit his image for his clients. Biggest memory was climbing all over his 1928 Packard tow truck. when he died I was 14 and couldn't convince my dad to take it for his garage. so it was sold. The unit just came up for sale after sitting in the buyers garage since 1969. I contacted the seller and sent him a wire transfer deposit to buy it. Only 3 photos and needs most likely a ton of mechanical and the body was changed quite a bit. But 52 years later I'm going to own it. 1933 photo Center Shore Drive Centerport N.Y.     Picked up the cab, fenders, and all exterior cab pieces on Thursday. I love the color, it's a Spectramaster green that took a lot of research to find. When I got home there was a small stone chip on the front, dang it! The trailer fenders are off for loading, I put them back on for the trip.

    Gee it was in all the papers. Today, we mourn the passing of an old friend by the name of Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life, but died from heart failure early on election day 2016.. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools; hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in from rain, the early bird gets the worm and life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it's okay to come in second. A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including feminism, body piercing, whole language and new math. But his health declined when he became infected with the "if-it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it" virus. In recent decades, his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal legislation. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers and enlightened auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies; when reports were heard of six year old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; when a teen was suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch; when a teacher was fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but couldn't inform the parent when a female student is pregnant or wants an abortion. Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments, regarding questionable regulations for asbestos, low-flow toilets, smart guns, the nurturing of Prohibition Laws and mandatory air bags. Finally, when told that the homeowners association restricted flags to those who supported non patriotic views, he breathed his last. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son Reason. His three stepbrothers survive him: Rights, Tolerance and Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

    Respectfully Sir, I disagree with you. I know we all appreciate Barry and Watts Truck Center for hosting this site. That said, he has chosen the Forums for the site. And the Odds and Ends Forum is the 2nd most popular of all of the Forums with over 91,000 posts. This particular post was placed where it belongs, in Odds and Ends. And the title contains the words "president and "Trump" so if one does not wish to read about politics then just don't click on it. I imagine that is why there are the different Forums, so you don't have to spend time in those which don't interest you.

    Finally finished my 1:24 scale Rubber Duck RS700L. It's loosely based on one of the early 70's second unit trucks: metal dash cab, Cummins power and cosmetic damage. With 1:25 scale brother for comparison.

    A little I’ve a month ago I moved into this 2016 Pinnacle . I love it ! Next best thing to my Superliner . It came up for grabs the beginning of last month at work when the guy that drove it and abused it for the last year wanted out of it because he wanted the 2006 International instead ? Go figure The guy ain’t right . So I went in the office and asked the boss if I could have it surprisingly he said yes ! I’m getting it cleaned up a little more all the time . I love the truck I pull s great not as good as my E9 I have at home but I’m still very pleased with its performance as I’m grossed out T between 115, to 132,000 lbs all the time . It does an excellent job .

    Malvern Fire Company in Malvern PA has Mack B75F0001, the first of the B75 Fire trucks delivered in July 1954, Radnor Fire Company (a neighboring company) must have liked the truck, so they ordered a twin B75F Pumper in July 1954. Radnor B75F0011 was delivered in December 1954. They responded to many fire calls together over the years. The Radnor Mack was in active service for 48 years until 2002. Both trucks are now in semi-retired status working at parades, shows and other events throughout the year. Big Mack Website members may have seen the Radnor Mack at Macungie or Lititiz this year. This past Saturday, October 13, 2018, both B75F pumpers they were together again at the Main Line Fire Prevention Expo in Devon Pa, providing fire truck rides to over 550 participants. It is very cool to see a matched pair of Mack Firetrucks still working together after 64 years.

    I saw a tree- there's a B-61 Mack up in there somewhere. There it is... Some cats at the dumpster in Gladys... I thought it was my lucky day when I spotted all this great furniture there, but the mattresses blew off the roof of the car on the way home, and by the time I got back with the truck all my furniture was gone too... Some trees- Some trucks... A scraper... ...and last but certainly not least- how about this?!! The beautiful redheaded correspondent from the Florida department of Winfall Wimmens sent this in-

    Thank you , prayer does work however o struggle with my faith . Can’t quite understand why at the tender young age of 49 the good lord has decided to put yet one more mountain in front of me to climb. Just to update. Chemo is Monday Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday and Thursday I’ve secured work for Allen Distribution in Carlisle pa as a casual driver those evenings . Yes my assigned tractor will be a Mack,yay me. Once in up over this current mountain I will be full time. Had orientation this afternoon then tried helping momma spread some mulch when she got home. But over all I’m in decent shape for the shape I’m in. Cheers 🍻

    I bought this old roadway truck back in '03 and made it into a twin screw, it was a great truck, the last to get stuck in the field. I sold it 3 years ago to a guy who's '66 r model had died on him, and he sent me a picture of it today.

    Tell them to go straight to Hell.I don't care what you do,just DO NOT give in,they want you to be scared and give up without a fight. I fought with zoning for 5 years,met every demand they placed on me,license,fence,etc.,they still wanted me gone,took me to court and I beat them,still here 14 years later. Just think where we'd be today if our leaders and troops just gave in without putting up a fight. Quote the Constitution to them,they hate that too.

    You never know . I was going to Iowa with a truck and trailer when I had a radiator leak . Found a parts place in Morton IL. that also had a radiator shop . The shop would repair the radiator if I took it out . While getting it out a man pulled in with a truck with a bad power steering pump . He asked if I would remove it and install a new one that the parts place had . I told him that I did not work here but would do it when I got the radiator out . Got the new pump installed he offered to pay me. I refused and told him I was just killing time while waiting on my radiator. Then a women with a car pulled in and asked if I would would change the wires and plugs on he car . Told he sorry but my radiator was done and had to get going as it started to rain . The shop would not charge me for the work on the radiator . This was on Friday afternoon . Everyone in the parts place and man in the shop was starting to drink a beer getting a start on the week end . I went to a store close by and bought a 12 pack for everyone . Was on my way was about 4:30 that afternoon .

    From all of the members of the Yocum creek and upper cloverfork vol fire departments we would like to say thank you to Don Holden aka Vals327 on here. he and 2 other men drove 800 miles one way to deliver us 2 1983 mack mc fire trucks. (pictures soon to come) this is the second truck that he has donated to Yocum creek and the first to upper cloverfork. words can not say how much we appreciate him and all who has helped us over the last few years. it takes a special kind of human being to drive 2 of the hottest trucks I have ever been in that distance over 2 days with out air conditioning and mid to upper 90s stay for a hour and begin there 800 mile journey back home. all I know to say is thank you

    I just got off the phone with him. He asked that I let everyone on here know about what is happening. FIRST AND FOREMOST- HE ASKS THAT THIS STAYS OFF FACEBOOK. He does not mind you guys knowing what is going on but he wants to keep it off facebook as he does not want certain people knowing his business. Many of you are aware that he was treated about 3 or 4 years ago for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of cancer. He was able to beat it, however it is a persistent form of cancer and often comes back, which it has. He begins some aggressive chemo treatment on Monday 4/30. He was kind of worried that he might have had to go to Pittsburgh for that but is able to do it locally. He will take it one day at a time. He is naturally upset, but keeping his head up. He approached his bosses late last week about the problem and explained that he would need time for treatment and to convalesce. He explained that he wanted to stay on part time for a while, as soon as he could go back to work, and then come back full time when he was able. His bosses fired him on Monday at a breakfast meeting. Mike has already seen an attorney who explained that as the Company is in New Jersey, they law is on their side, however he believes he may have a case and they will be filing a wrongful termination suit. This is what really has him upset right now. So for obvious reasons, Mike may or may not make Macungie depending on how hard the chemo kicks his arse. Please keep him in your thoughts and remember no mention of any of this publically on Facebook.
