    Started as a R-795 with a Mack Maxidyne V8 under the hood. Well, it still is a V8... A very neat and tidy swap.

    The B-81 was produced between 1955-1966. The heavy duty model replaced the Mack LJ and in turn, the B-81 was replaced by the DM series of trucks.

    Got you all a couple pictures while dropping off a sandblaster I borrowed from a friend. Not sure if they drive, every few years they're parked somewhere else on his property. One or both of them are gassers.

    Stopped by on to see some of my friends and family when I was passing through and these pics were shared with me. The owner of the truck thought some thieves were hanging around his place because things were getting moved and messed with it at night. So he set up a game camera to see what was happening and he caught the perp. Then I saw these weird bunker things. At first I thought they were those potato cellars but seeing that they went on for miles and having a 6 foot fence and later seeing a sign that said it was an army depot I’d have to guess they were used for storing munitions?

    On display at the Mack Museum. The truck designation "97" (example R-797 or DM-897) would indicate this Thermodyne V8 ENDT866 engine was under the hood. My recollection is the engine should be a silver color and the gold color was for the Mack Maxidyne engine family. A nice bit of kit anyways.

    Once they finally decide which types of emissions are really doing harm, yeah. If I remember correctly, we filter different things here than Europe because of a different set of guidelines/concerns/whatever. I've also heard that the environmental impact of setting up the network of DEF stations, moving DEF, fuel used on regen cycles, etc. may have negated any benefit that DPFs provide. I do wish we could legislate things based on looking at entire problems/solutions.

    As some of you may know, I have one of the 48 RD800 Macks that was used to haul tanks across the desert in Operation Desert Storm. Just by accident, I stumbled across the guy that actually drove my truck during the war on facebook. Sgt Robin Titus was the main driver of my truck. The truck was originally blue from the factory, as evidence of the build sheet I have for the truck, the firewall is still blue, and there is blue paint under the white where it is chipped. Sgt Titus said that truck was the only blue one there and the only one that was all Mack. 471st Transportation Company, truck #104. He sent me some pictures of the truck in country. He said I was lucky that I got the one he drove, because most of the other drivers didn't know how to drive. He already knew how to drive and was tasked with teaching the others how to drive, he said that was the reason he got to pick whichever truck he wanted. The first picture is how the truck looks currently, the other pictures are of the Macks over in the desert, the blue one in a couple of the pics is mine.

    During the cold war, the U.S. Army purchased a variety of Mercedes-Benz trucks operating out of its German bases ranging from the G-wagen to heavy trucks. Those "L" series Mercedes trucks in the picture may look dated but are "built like a Mack Truck". .

    A cordless Milwaukee "Sawzall" and a four pound hammer will do the job quite well. Damage is relative to the operator's skill. If you care to post a bit more pertinent information someone may be along to offer tangible assistance.

    No the story implies they weren't a contract bid purchase. They were a last minute "hey we need trucks can you get us a few?" These trucks weren't built for the military, but they wound up filling the job last minute. More of a cash transaction sort of deal than negotiated bid contract.

    We went to the greatest antique truck show on Earth in Macungie, Pa, then to Connecticut to see the redhead's parents and some of her old friends, then on the way back we stopped in Bethlehem and looked around the old Bethlehem Steel site, then toured the Mack Museum before we made it home. It was fantastic. We saw this in Macungie- We saw this in Ct. She took me to this place up on that mountain when I met her in the early 80's. We saw this in Bethlehem. And this was at the Mack museum-

    Don't see these little rigs everyday. The boxer style 6 cylinder air cooled engine appeared to be spotless under the hood bed floor. Ralph Nader was nowhere to be seen.

    I went ahead and took it to my mechanic. I didn't have the time to pull the covers but I'm leaning toward a bent valve or something to do with the Jake. The drive is about 45 min and the warmer the engine got the worse it ran. The cold start was good. Made me think might of had a stuck valve that unstuck but the further I got down the road the worse it got. I did not use soapy water on the intake side. It was more of a visual, touch and feel, and not to mention the old dollar bill for vacuum leaks. I'll post what he finds when I hear something. As always I appreciate everyone's help.

    Another side benefit is your air receivers, (tanks) last much longer when an air dryer is incorporated as very little moisture vapor gets to the tanks if the maintenance is kept up on the dryer.

    This rig served as a yard dog for A. Duie Pyle. Has a lift fifth wheel for getting the job done. Duie Pyle then sold it to a trailer manufacturer. The present owner says it has around 58,000 miles on the clock. Low miles but plenty of hours. Then again, the 237 Maxidyne is probably just broke in.

    The Anthem.......such a hideous looking gaudy/tacky modification of a Mack CH should be a crime. And one has to wonder, did the Swedish foreign aggressor name this product after our national anthem......or theirs?

    The whole reason that Scot came into existence is that the Irving's figured that it would be cheaper to build trucks than to buy them. The JD Irving company basically owns much of the Maritimes: they have a substantial empire based on oil, paper and agriculture/fishing. Midland and RST Transport are Irving companies. Midland is a van company and RST moves tankers. I've been told that the Midland Scots were ordered with Formula 290 and 300 Cummins with a 9 speed. I know of two Midland owner operators; one had a 350 Cummins, later replaced with a 400, and another had a Detroit. They bought new and probably received better terms. The Irvings currently own Freightliner dealerships. I used to see those tractors every now and then back when I was growing up. The city of Toronto also owned some of their fire trucks, and kept them as reserve units up until....I'm going to say the early 90's. I used to think those trucks were ugly as sin. Now I think that that big cab with the integrated sleeper may have been ahead of its time.

    And it's cheaper to make one head to fit all configurations of motors whether its a 1, 2, 3, 4, or what ever the case maybe This single head per cylinder was pretty common in Europe on trucks tractors and just about any type of diesel engine Paul

    Pretty much all larger diesels such as marine propulsion and electric power production have individual cylinder heads. GE, EMD, Pielstick, Suzler, Cat, Janmar, Waukashaw, Cooper Bessemer etc. FM opposed piston engines were an exception as they had no heads. Scania followed this design in their V8. As KS states it is easier to fine tune an individual cylinder as opposed to a group of cylinders hooked up to multi ported intake and exhaust manifolds. KS also noted the maintenance advantages. Scania was wise to follow this design into the smaller engine design. I believe Scania also uses this design in some of their six cylinder designs.

    Correct. The US was ramping up for war and realized they didn’t have enough trucks to move tanks quickly across the vast desert. They reached out to Mack because they were the only US manufacturer that would have heavy spec trucks in inventory for immediate shipment. Also, all this was top secret while it was going on. Mack was actually pulling trucks out of inventory that people had on order in lots of cases. I’ve got many more pics of the trucks over in the desert, but they are from a closed group Facebook page and I haven’t got permission to post them. Sgt Titus is the only one that has given me permission to post the pics he sent me. Here is a YouTube video of the trucks over there. I don’t think my truck is in any of the video.

    Thanks for posting. I knew of Scot Trucks (especially the Midland fleet) but I never saw the cabovers or the off road trucks. We lost a lot of good truck manufacturing here in Canada over the years.

    It is new and made locally. The original body was much larger and wider. The original picture Matt has of it is rather impressive and the body is silver. I think the reason for the smaller body was for transportability, you would need oversize permits any time it needed to move.

    That's Erick Oehme's F-Model that he fully restored. It is reported that the cab on it was the last NOS cab in existence in Mack's inventory.

    If illegals are stopped at the border, then any human trafficking is also stopped at the border......end of story. It's all about enforcing our already existing laws......and sending a strong message. Then, 95 percent of this will end.
