  1. Today
  2. Oops sorry this one slipped through the cracks. I'd love to see some pictures of the truck and engine! There isn't all that much info out there about Mack gassers. Is it a flathead of overhead valve?
  3. Heres your chance to own a rare one: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/986690686122475 Marmon made some cool looking cabovers but there isn't much Info out there about em. I wonder if they had an air ride cab like the Mack, that would add whole new level of cool! Riding on the doghouse in our Mh was the coolest thing as a kid! You could feel everything the engine was doing and wow that E6 would feel like an earthquake when hauling 90,000!
  4. Bridge approaches are sketchy in our truck, never noticed how badly interstate roads drop before you enter/exit bridges, but our truck would throw you pretty hard. Fortunately most of our driving is local non highway.
  5. Oh, that’s the truth. I got 19 more weeks before partial retirement. I can’t wait to have more time on my hands to accomplish all kinds of stuff and.Hi Paul lol bob
  6. We have an mr688 we put together 2 years ago. Best truck to work on, tilt the cab forward and EVERYTHING is right there. But it rides rough, with a 20k steer axle. Wish I could put air bags on the rear cab mounts...
  7. I guess I was born in the wrong Era like my Grandfather always said. Here lately after all the issues with The Green Hornet 💚 I've been wanting an older Truck Particularly a CABOVER!!! Now I know alot will tell me that I'm nuts and that's OK but I remember riding in an old Freightliner when I was younger up in Michigan and I fell in love with it. Now a few modern updates would be great like air ride, short frame stretch maybe, and a fridge maybe also a webasto heater for winter. But other than that I just wanna go down the road in a Cabover. Couple favorite ones are the late 70s Freightliner,Mack MH613,International 4070B.
  8. Hi all. Just an update here. I was able to read the engine number better after we got it out of the shed it was stored in. The number on the block is actually EN 377 43 65. I still cannot find anything on this. But, While driving it back to our shop. I drove it in direct. 1st and 2nd worked well witth plenty of power. When I put it in 3rd (direct), it ran good for awhile. Then it started running very rough. If I shifted down it would clear up and run fine. Almost like the governor isn't working under power. If I can figure this engine out, I can figure the governor out too. Thanks Pat
  9. Tried to do some more digging on the starter numbers. Same basic model so it might be as little as how the nose cone is indexed, or could be a different drive. Either way I am finding rebuilds in the upper $300 to mid $400 range plus core charge. If you just want it for a spare/core it would be worth having around, SAE #2 housings are not common any more. I think this one spins, I haven't tried it, but if you are interested, I'll dig it out and put a battery one it.
  10. If it continues, I'd pull valve covers and double check valve lash. You could have a dropped valve seat.
  11. Changed fuel filters, put 425/65-r22.5 tires on the steer axle, worked through a laundry list of small punch list items, then took it for a test drive today. Only complaint I have is it has a stumble in the idle, most noticable when it's in gear at a stop. (It's an automatic so it puts the engine under load)
  12. A good parasite doesn't kill it's host. The recent strike was no good for anyone.
  13. Carb numbers for model 852 FFG for V-401 Manual 391-937-C91 List number (4438) Manual 391-938-C91 List number (4679) Auto trans 391-939-C91 List number (4378)
  14. Just checked, it is the one I am thinking about an MT-30 with SAE #2 mount. The one I have came off an RD inline and is one digit different (according the the catalog, I haven't looked at/for the tag on it) but is also the MT-30 with SAE #2. I don't have spec's on the drives, but wouldn't be surprised they were the same. If you have a cost effective way to get it from western Iowa, it is yours for the asking. According to my Delco book it should have a 1113217 starter, and the one I have "should be" an 1113218 for an RD inline.
  15. I may have a starter for that. They use a type that is kind of rare, an SAE 2 if it is the starter I am thinking of. You can have it for free, but getting it to you would cost more than it is worth last time I looked into it. I might also be able to ID what carb it has or should have on it
  16. Yesterday
  17. Welcome Pogey, 25+years ago I was moving the same type loads, 12,000 front axle with 16,000 lbs springs, 40K rears, and a 23K pusher. I took that up to 170,000 lbs a few times. I guess not much changes. I did have a lighter frame, however. 400 Cummins and Eaton 13 through a 14" organic clutch. My guess is your power is more than we had back then, but the job doesn't change. Edit: didn't notice this was an old post, and he hasn't been back since, Oh well.
  18. Welcome My Fellow TRUCKER. I'd love to see that Rig.
  19. Would be a nice Canidate for an old school High rise Square Sleeper. I'd drive it
  20. Most of the upgrades require 12 volts to the distributor . IDK if the truck uses a balast resistor (or wire) , but I know most need 12 volts . The Petronix distributors are emphatic about that when you buy the whole distributor I know.
  21. Carb kits are on Ebay. If that's a two barrel it's likely a 852FFG. I have an old Chiltons book Iv'e been looking at here. That truck reminds me so much of my uncle's dump truck when I was little. Hit a soft spot or something.
  22. I feel the ratio would be good for shifting weight Maybe not high speed highway work in the U.S. Would be okay out here were we go a little slower but run a bit heavier Paul
