MACK E6 350 2V REBUILD

Recommended Posts

It is really a big challenge in this part of the world to get a trained or certified mack technician. This has made it too frustrating that many people are dumping their mack trucks because the challenge of keeping mack truck running here is much. I like venturing where others has backed out cos I know it is a matter of knowledge. I do hope bigmacktrucks will be a wonderful resource. I don't intend to quit mack.

The bearings are stamped 8331 STD. One of it showed that it has been seriously scrapped including the crankshaft. So I need to under size the crankshaft to 010 or 020. But i need to know the diameter of the sizes so as  to help me know what am getting during the under sizing.

Glad we could help you. It's hard to operate a Mack in Nigeria without any acceptable after-sales support.

It is really tough. From fake China and Indian parts to untrained technicians. I brought my data from the book  pages you sent me and my technician was looking at me like a stupid person who does not know that they work without data. I have to insist on my data and standard procedure. I have bought a complete volume of TS442 10/67 TO 10/79 from amazon. I have also bought telescopic bore gauge, micrometer, Milwaukee 2763-22 M18 FUEL 1/2" High-Torque Impact Wrench, toque wrench and many others. I must confess that I am not understanding all the technical explanations in the TS442 highway vehicle service manual and neither do the technicians here. I will be coming up with question for things i do not understand. For me mack remains the bull and that's the way to go. Thanks bro.

You are on the ONLY right way if you're going to run your truck well.

If mechanics call themselves as they do it doesn't mean they know the matters. And when they ruin a vehicle a customer usually doesn't have a clue to fix the case up.

In theory you don't need to undersize the shaft to the exact figures. You may just undersize it to the grade the wear is gone. Then measure it and fabricate new bearings of brass/bronze stock of the size you made your shaft. If you can get factory bearings and keep the correct under sizes it sure would be better.

Good luck on your adventure.

Waooo am back for the reports. It isn't easy. It has been bags and bags of experience. Searching the internet from East to west, north to south. I guess no one has troubled and queried google recently the way I did. I sincerely wish to thank you guys for your unquantifiable replies and assistance. You encouragement gave me the power to dare E6 350hp 2V mack engine.

During the journey to standard restoration, I discovered a lot of changes has been made to the system improperly. The turbo reads 4LEK 311644. I could not get detailed info about the turbo except china adverts for the turbo, I intent to install gauge to check the boost. The pyrometer has also been removed. All cooling system electronics are also gone. I intend to refit them one by one.

The issue now is the injection pump. The injector pump technician here only knows how to tear down and change the plungers. He does not know what is port closure even delivery rate and other injection terms so i need to be involved to get it to standard.

1. My engine plate reads 23° BTC but ambac injection Pump reads port closing at 21°. Is this 21° PC reference to engine flywheel or somewhere else. (I use degree wheel)

2. The governor of the amback injector seem to have been tampered so I need to find out the appropriate quantity of diesel to be delivered to achieve 350hp at the governed speed. My engine plate says fuel rate at advertised hp is 190 mm³ /stroke. How do I convert this to liters /minute. Is it per compression stroke and how many seconds or minutes elapsed during one stroke? Or is there another way of determining the quantity of gasoline to be delivered into the combustion chamber for appropriate performance.

3. I intend to use PRESSURE TIMING METHOD to check port closure. Where can I get 600psi pump. Many that i have seen online are less than 150psi.

4. Where can i buy overflow valve? The one on the truck does not maintain pressure. The ball valve seem to have warn.

If you are going "Down Under" for parts and info check out Tony Champion (Volvo Commercial Vehicles) Rockhampton Queensland. His corporate sign may say Volvo BUT there are none on the lot!! this sign is in his parts / show room.

we all mock the exporting of Mack trucks to the far corners of the planet where in many cases they die a brutal death... I think it is comforting to hear from an owner who is interested in keeping his truck running with absolutely no local support...

we all know it is not getting any easier in North America to run and repair older trucks.... I tried to repair 1960's British buses here in Canada and empathise with his problem.
