When retired from the Army, I hope to find, and "Adopt" an old dog, and give her another shot at the road.

  1. Is that a KW emblem someone stuck on over the radiator hatch?
  2. Been around trucks my whole life too! The first Mack I ever rode in , I guess I was about 5, an OLD R, had the front wheels like the B models. My dad and I went to Pick up a th back hoe, and the operator one morning. We get there, they load up the back hoe on the lowboy, and we take off. Mind you, this is the mid 70's, so a kid sittin in some ones lap goin down the road, wasn't a big deal, anyway, we get close to home, and my dad pulls over, and says "The Bback hoe fell off." As a 5 yr old kid, I'm thinkin it's layin in the middle of the road, to scared to look out the back window. All that really happened, was the front binder came loose. Since then Ive been obsessed with Macks. FFWD to 2005. I deployed to Iraq, as a truck driver in the Army, I love my job! As my buddies and i are walking out of the mess hall, there sat a 90 model RB!! Not too shabby lookin either. 10 hole aluminum wheels all around, 2 chrome stacks behind the cab, and a Holmes Wrecker body. After gaining my composuer, I walked over. Never having the chance to get my CDL, being in Europe most of my Army life, I thought At least I can ask. Sure enough, the guy let me in, to drive! I thought yep, I got to get one of these. To see the ass end of that Dog pullin me through that lot was awesome!! Just drove around the parking lot, as the driver was waiting for his partner, but I got through a couple gears. Maybe I should've put this in its own thread, now that I think of it, Just wanted to share my story .
  3. I was stationed in Germany, and had an opportunity to drive a Mecedes-Benz Actros, and a Scania 420. Just like a big car! The Mercedes had whats called Electronic Power Shift. Didn't quite figure it out, cuz my friend is Italian, and English is limited. More or less like a the Tiptronic in a car, cuz he got fed up I guess, and put it in automatic mode! The Scania has a different gear pattern. Our trucks are the H pattern, with LO, or 1 and R by your leg. It had only an H. R, 1, 2, and 3. 12 speed. Import costs, and the popularity wouldn't be in ya'lls favor. They have the power though! Volvo is pushin 700Hp, strapped to a 16spd, and Scania has a 730 pony motor! Their tractor-trailers would work awesome in places NYC, REALLY short wheelbases!
  4. Dis regard the last! i jumped the gun. Modified 920. Still would like to know where you saw it! thanks, dogfan
  5. Good God! Where the Hell did you see that thing? I've been in the Army near 17 years, a truck driver for 14 of those! i've seen tho older Oshksh M911, and driven the M1070, even seen a couple of the RD800's here in Kuwait they used at one time! That thing is a hog! The biggest in the AM General manual is an M920. Similar, big tractor with 6x8 set up. Any info on that? dogfan
  6. My granddad drofve an old Emeryville. Twin screw though. Got pissed when they traded it for a Transtar
  7. Awesome truck! Theres 1 or 2 close to where my dad lives, also an old G model! just sitting there.
