the 'F'  model tilt tray I have had much the same problem

the main hose/pipe from compressor to 1st tank had coked up

the oil bypassing the rings in the compressor would burn

n coke up the hose...we just draged sum wire with a ruff end threw the pipe

to allow air to go to 1st tank

Use a spray bottle with soapy water in it and start at the compressor discharge line spraying it.Many air compressors have been changed when it was a soft hose leaking.Remenber if there is no pressure there to start with its hard to hear a air leak.It would be nice if you could connect shop air to the comp discharge line and see were the air goes.Dont air a tank up but use the comp line.
