  1. Yes, the extra holes in the frame were welded, as for the method I do not know but will ask the guy who did the welding for me. I couldn't get two pieces of metal to stick together if my life depended on it, I have a few friends who are professional welders that take care of that.
  2. No, a headboard is optional on open deck trailers. If you are hauling cargo other than vehicles you just need to put additional securement to the front of the load. For cars, no special requirements apply, however with a 53 foot high mount trailer like mine many states do not allow you to have any overhang to the front or rear of the trailer, so you can be limited with regards to what legally fits.
  3. It has been two months since I brought her home, the project is coming along nicely. I had to put her into service sooner than I wanted due to a rust through spot on the frame of my Volvo, so the interior and some little details have not been completed yet. Thought y'all would like to see some shots of the progress. 2000 Mack CX613 Vision E7-427, 13 speed Eaton originally with a Eaton DS-405 tandem rear, now with a Spicer 23,000 locker, 3.70 gears
  4. I am in Lords Valley, park the trucks in Dingmans Ferry. My Aunt was from Hackettstown, she was a computer programmer for M&M back in the 70's, most of my dad's family is still in the area. We could use some diagnostic help every once in a while. So far I don't have any pressing issues, although I do need my speedometer re-calibrated on the Mack, tire size has been changed so it will need the tire rpm updated, just not ready to make the change yet, I may be going back to the oem size when I put new tires on it next month.
  5. I apologize if this has already been addressed, I tried searching and did not find any answers. I have a small fleet, 7 trucks total 3 with Cummins power, 2 with Cat, 1 Volvo, and 1 Mack. The Mack is a 2000 CX613 with the E7-427 and the Volvo is a 2000 VMN with the D12. I am looking for recommendations on software and devices to read and adjust engine and body controller parameters on the Mack. I have Insite for the Cummins and and a friend has a Snap-On scanner that does the Cats. All I can find that will allow both read/clear dtc as well as adjust parameters is the Mack/Volvo software from the dealer for about $1,000 with the interface cable. The only good part about the dealer software it it claims to work on all Mack and Volvo products from 98-2010, so I may be able to justify it between the two trucks. I like to do my own repair, hate waiting on a shop, my Volvo is typically in the shop for no less than 30 days every time it goes there, no exaggeration. I can find generic scanners to read/clear some codes, but need to be able to adjust the speed limiter, tire rpm, idle shut down, enable high idle, fan cut in/out points, etc just like I do on my other trucks. Any advice or suggestions? I would also entertain a local Mack tech from northeast Pa or northwest NJ (Pike, Wayne, Sussex, Orange counties) that has their own computer and wants some side work and is willing to help diagnosis and/or repair my trucks.
  6. I am looking for a copy of the owner/operators manual for a 2000 CX613 Vision, and the service manual for the E7-427 motor. I know I can order these from my dealer but was hoping someone had a copy they no longer needed. I just purchased this truck and have always liked to have copies of the books for my vehicles. I was able to download my KW, Freightliner, and Volvo books but have not had any luck with the Mack books. I have no idea what used books are worth, but will entertain all offers before ordering a new set. Thanks.
  7. Hi. My name is Brian and I just purchased my first Mack, a 2000 CX613 that I am cutting down to a single axle to pull my car hauler with. I have been a professional driver for 23 years, and have operated many Mack trucks in the past but this is the first I have owned. I have been in the auto transport business for 12 years now, and prior to that I owned a towing company and repair garage, I will try to keep everyone posted on the progress, I just started the tear down of the truck today. Thank you for the great resource. I have attached a pic of the truck I am building right now, and a Mack wrecker that I operate from time to time. I hope you enjoy.
