I just bought an 05 granite with a pony axle, 460 hp, 18 spd, with 200,000 miles and I paid 85,000. I probably paid a little too much because I wanted an 18 sp. there was one in Charlotte on truck paper that I think was an automatic. Also I believe the Mack dealer in charleston, sc had a couple automatics come in on trade. Look up truck trader and you will get a feel for value. I looked for awhile and I think with the mileage you stated you would be 65,000-75,000. Although the I hear the automatic is the preferred trans and costs more

COMPLETE check....bring a grease gun too

u-joints, carrier bearings, look at brakes and signs of leaking fluid

ALL lites

would suck to get hit at a weigh station/roadside check

make sure you have paperwork in order as you will crossing many state lines

Good luck on the trip

that is the electrical malfunction light. pretty much any thing can set it off.

my 05 has a loose connection somewhere in the pyrometer circuit that is always setting the light. another one i get is #1 injector motor weak, but i only get that when letting the engine idle to warm up on cold days. once i get going it goes away.

Hey you all ,

I made it home safely, after close inspection (as above mentioned by you all) I am not satisfied, brakes are all needs real attention, AC belt needs to be change .I will do both.

Total grease job and fluid, filter change in order. other than that I am happy sailor.

I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION, there is a regular gate valve (like you will have in your house plumbing) above the rear valve cover looks like part of heat system.. ANY IDEA what this is or just first owner installed it for some reason?

Thanks

that is to turn the hot water on/off for the heater.

there is an electric motor inside the heater box that turns hot water on/off, but they usually burn out over time. the valve on the water manifold is a mechanical way to control hot water to the heater core.

i usually open it about 1/4 turn in the winter so i do not cook in the cab. then close it in the summer for AC. the electric motor in my heater box is bad, and it is easier to just open/close the valve than it is to take the box apart and relace the motor.

As soon as I figure out how to post pictures .I will add them. Any help how to do it?

i download pictures to a web picture sharing site.

i use photobucket. the nice thing about photobucket is that they automatically resize pictures for proper format so you do not post giant or miniture pictures.

than just copy and paste the link from there.
