Suspension switch. Air ride to camel back

Recommended Posts

I am in need of some advice. I converted a mack ch-613 into a dump truck and am thinking about switching out the air ride suspension for a camel back to help out sticky situations. Any recommendations and any estimates on how much I'm looking at, I will greatly appreciate it.

i would think a complete mack cut off wouldnt be over 2000.00 and could be as low as 850.00 depending on size and condition

That sounds great but what exactly is 'mack cut off'?? Is that the mack camelback? I've always heard of Hendrickson and a couple of others around the yard

Chassis section with rears, suspension and cross members. That way you can go up on the rear weight ratings too.

Sounds like another doomed highway tractor to dump truck conversion. The CH was never designed for off road use, it's easier to just buy an RD or DM dump truck than try to convert a CH. What's the rated capacity of the axles. 12k and 40K?

Yup.. I know what you mean but how weird how I know of about 4-6 ch that don't have any issues but mine is the first.

I believe the rated capacity is 40k

I bought a 1994 ch613 off of lease. It had 311,000 miles. The bunk got pulled off and it got double framed. It had 40k air ride in it. We put a 3500 gallon milk tank on it and it pulled a pup. The truck grossed 51,000 pounds full and the pup was 30,000 pounds. We ran that truck right to a million miles with absolutely zero issues ever. Only did maintenance. We added a leaf to the front springs, and when I saw the greaseless pins and bushings I thought they wouldn't last long....we never had to replace them. Our R's and RD's were double framed and we replaced crossmembers and were always working on the front ends.

What rears do you have currently? I know with eaton and rockwell you can get cross locks as well as interaxle diff lock. That would help lots.

Some other guys might shed more light on the mack rears regarding cross locks or something similar.

we ran ch models for several years as dump trucks mack air rides were always great but you always had to dump the airbags which always made me feel more comfortable because it got your load a little lower and it was real stable

. I myself would not want the change but there was an entire suspension setup for sale in the classifieds here in the forum.
