This truck owned and operated by MIFALEY TOVALA in Israel caring Potash from dead sea in the 200 KM route threw desert rocking hi temperatures, in road train combination.The first trailer takes 35 tons, 2nd takes 25 ton, GCVW is 90 tons. until mid '70 there was no air condition, great experience for the driver. nevertheless drivers took their families sometimes 4 at the cabin (!) to long trips to Eilat and sharem el sheich in Sinai, Actually, this is the 4th DM800 in 'Mifaley Tovala', their 1st DM800 was the 4th in the world. Engineer Avraham Halivni (D.) had big inputs on the DM800 design. DM800 opened new era in Mifaley Tovala, about 190 unit of DM800 worked in Mifaley Tovala well into the '80. I knew he had started build Kaisers in the early 1950's and MACKs in 1956 and later Studebaker Larks in 1959. Was the DM pictured built at Illin or Ashdod? GCVW is roughly the same the DM had- about 100 tons. Frame number of this DM is 1008 ,i don't have the full VINThis is a DM863SX, so thanks BMT for your correctionThis DM is imported, later models were assembled in Ashdod, i think from 1973. this was not Efrain ILIN factory but belong to his competitor SHUBINSKY than in 1973 sold to ELKON family, distributor of Mack since the '50. Mifaley Tovala had 64 (!) units of DM863SX, about 2 of them had engine replaced to CAT1693, stronger then the NTC335 and had breaksaver- internal retarder. Israel is great place, history, holly places, nice looking girls, great atmosphere.The DM865SX was so successful that when retired lots of them sold as truck trailer to Iraq and Georgia (the one near russia not in US) while other converted to tippers and went to work in Africa. (from the internet)The only draw back was sometimes unaware drivers that over run the V8 engine. i.e. push to high RPM with no reason thus made damage, but you cannot find any other truck / vehicle/ airplane that serves so many years and cost so little to run. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
