truck is an 87 r model with 22.5 spoked wheels. could i upgrade to 24's without changing the hubs. and how much work would it be to convert the hubs for spoked wheels to aluminum buds.

You can go from 22 tube wheels (split rims) to 24.5's.

But you can not from 22.5 tubless'. Need larger hubs for.

Alu's might be stud piloted (ball seat) and hub piloted. Have different # at least referring to Alcoa.

For example 24.5' Alcoas are 983100 (101,102,103,120,121,122,123) for stud piloting and 983600 (601,602,620,621) for hub type.

If you're going to convert to budds/Alu's you heed to swap the hubs. You must determine to buy hub-piloted hubs or stud-piloted.

I'd go to the hub type, theyre newer and easier to get wheels. Don't forget about studs themself - they're longer for alu's than for steel budds.

Stud nuts (and studs) in stud-piloted and hub-piloted styles have different size and thread.

Vlad pretty much covered it. But it would be helpful if you tell us what you want to accomplish with this "upgrade". for example do you just want the aluminum look or do you need more road speed or ground clearance or weight capacity etc. Also let us know what axles you have. This will allow us to help better as preferences will vary with application.

A decent junkyard will have what you need for hubs . the hubs will probably be cheeper than all the new seals, bearing, and races you'll be wanting to put in them. You will want hub pilot/unimount if you want easy. Personally i think that there is nothing easier than spokes(especially if you aren't setup with good tools) but to each his own.
