What do I have? Maybe you can help me :)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just signed up here hoping for some help. I bought this truck as a yard truck, he is affectionately named "mater". I think he's a 1956 B-model...but that's where my knowledge about him ends. He starts flawlessly, runs, drives. Has a split-shift transmission. Has two batteries, 8 tires, is diesel and is a dump truck. I had a heavy equipment mechanic do some maintenance on him (change some fluids, work on the piston and fix a tire).

I really don't see me using him anymore and would like him to go to a NICE home (please not scrap!). But I have no idea how to list him, or what to ask for him. We are located in Massachusetts. Someone in New Hampshire was interested but I have a feeling they have changed their minds. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all for your help,

Barb

Oh my gosh! j hancock--thank you! I will look for the serial number. So---when I find the number, is there a data base to type in it and it'll tell me the 'specs''?

Yes, Bigdogtrucker...I have lots of pics (and videos). Here are some frame pictures....of course they aren't of the passenger side--which is what I guess I really need!

I have a video of the engine--if this site will allow videos I'll try to get that up in a moment.

Yay, yay, yay!!!! Thank you all for your help so far!

Mater is a B61SX! Having an identity is a good first step!

Here is the (interior) frame pics. I read that the 2" oak was for trucks 'meant' for rip rap?! Not sure if that's true but alas 'Mater does have the oak rail. Really, NOTHING in the way of rust on the frame. No flaking, no weirdness at all really.

Some pics of the interior frame rails, serial number, etc.

maybe my eyes are not that good but looks to have a triple frame in one pic and a double in another. maybe its where thr trunion is mounted. had 55,000 rears in it, most likely a 673 natural with a 20 speed direct. will move a mountain but will be a 52mph truck tops. still a nice base for a project. triple frames are getting harder to find not all spread. realistically probably a 2-3 grand truck if the front sheet metal and cab floor is not shot
