Murphy's Law !

BAD DOG

Recommended Posts

I've had a water pump for an 866 V8 in the collection for some time, I used to keep one on the shelf when I had one of those engines since one isn't the easiest thing to find and they aren't cheap either. I been trying to sell it since I don't need it anymore and finally found some one that needed it so I sold it for for less than I paid for it just to get rid of it. I shipped it out to a place in WA. On the 9th of April. It was supposed to arrive at it's destination on the 18th of April. And now a week late it still hasn't made it to WA. I've talked to the guy from the UPS store I shipped it from and to a couple people at UPS and no one knows where it is???? Needless to say the buyer nor myself are very happy campers right now. I've shipped a lot of stuff UPS before and it's always been good. They just had to loose a needle in a haystack on us this time!

Was the shipment insured? If so, file a claim to get your money back. It will not replace the water pump but each of you will be even moneywise.

Also, do you have the UPS tracking number? Go to their website and view the tracking. It will show you when it left a terminal, in transit, or when it arrived at a terminal. You can call UPS and they can track it too. They have the shipping information.

Both myself and the buyer have tracked it and even UPS said the paperwork cleared for it it go through customs but for some reason it has not left Toronto. In other words they lost it plain and simple. It's not so much the money the insurance will pay something not what it should cause we de valued it to save him on the custom costs, the other guy was waiting for a re maned water pump , I can send him to another place to get one but it'll cost him more plus it's already cost him a week extra now. Just figures they can't loose something that was a little easier to replace than an 866 water pump.

Shipping through customs can be a problem some times. I sent all the brake parts from the LS85 via the post office. Big mistake. I insured the stuff for good measure and they are happy to take your money to do so. The only problem is when you try to collect and cant document what you paid for those specific parts with a receipt (like you have that for some parts of a restoration project???) they don't pay. Told me to screw. No parts, no money no nothing! At least with UPS they pay on the insurance or so I am told. They never lost anything so I have not found out.

DHL is another horror show...

Good luck. Hope you have insurance...

DHL I had a customer that used them as a customs broker when I trucked cross border daily. They were a nightmare stuff was never cleared and I had to go in to the brokers almost every trip. I donated a lot of free time to DHL back in the day. UPS wasn't much better as a brokerage firm. Thinking about that makes me glad I stay on this side of the border for my job now. Crossing the border is tough enough anymore without having a customs broker that doesn't do a job you pay them to do.
