Yes it does have engine brake yes drums were heat cracked replaced rear drive drums and lining. Front drive is getting new drums and lining in jan. truck is a bulk truck in the mining industry could it be he is over running the brakes from speed braking to late not using engine brake and possibly not dropping lift axle which has brakes and never need set up

It looks like everything is pointing to hard use of the brakes. Was this driver ever shown how to drive with the best interest of the truck in mind- or more importantly his safety and the safety of others? Eventually he will run out of brakes or luck or both, and you're name is on the door. Time to have a chat.

If he's coming in to the shop in the afternoon running empty with brakes out of adjustment and hot enough to smell he'd already be gone with me. I don't think I've ever gotten brakes that hot empty, loaded yes and when I started driving I only thought the throttle had two positions, wide open and idle! Damn I've changed over the last 19 or so years, hell I don't even know how fast my work truck will go, 68 works awful good. I think having only been a driver I would still be a little hard on trucks but having to fix what broke and being there to see the damage and the brake and engine wear changes your outlook, owning the truck and paying for it changes it a lot more.

I back them off a half. Letting the s cam move a hair more keeping the off of the cam between brake jobs. I notice less flat spotting and less chance if the 20 idiot drivers stabbing the brakes and hanging and dragging.

I think that little more movement helps in cold weather cause the cam is cleaner for more rolling movement when the try freeze down.

I've seen times where tipping the s cam releases the froze down brakes. Just .02
